Press Freedom in China: An Insider’s Perspective.

So I read this article by a Mr. 吳國光(Wu, GuoGuang): http://wuguoguang.com/2013/01/25/1449 In it, he has links to videos explaining his years working in the Chinese Press. Several things to keep in mind when you’re watching this: You’ll need to get…

http://www.atimes.com/atimes/China/OA25Ad01.html … China’s meagre investment in Mexico…

Chinese in Europe

http://www.atimes.com/atimes/China/OA24Ad02.html It is a fact: Chinese criminal syndicates based in Europe are increasingly thriving in their business, notably by means of a successful hybridization with indigenous organized crime groups. The phenomenon is impacting the Old Continent as a whole, with…

Sleeping On the Job

http://www.thenanfang.com/blog/netizens-unamused-by-sleeping-officials Officials sleeping on the job? Maybe there’s something in Chinese labor laws that define everyone working needing an afternoon siesta? OK, so much for giving them the benefit of the doubt. But you know, sleeping on the job beats…

Communism Still Looms Large

(Leung, Ping-Kwan) recently passed away. I never read any of this man’s poems, but I think his view is supported by all overseas Chinese, of which until recently 2/3 had come from Cantonese-speaking areas: http://rendezvous.blogs.nytimes.com/2013/01/08/the-death-of-a-poet-who-defined-hong-kong I had interviewed him…

Emperors Eating Chickens

http://blogs.ft.com/beyond-brics/2013/01/11/chinas-only-children-risk-avoiding-untrustworthy-pessimists China’s “little Emperors” have got a lot of bad press in the 30-odd years since Mao Zedong created a generation of pampered and pilloried only children with the “one child policy”. It did not help that KFC, the Western…
